The Barelang Bridge is a chain of 6 bridges of various types that connect the islands of Batam, Rempang, and Galang, giving the system its name. The bridge is an icon of the local area and is a popular tourism site. Traveling from the first bridge to the last is about 50 km takes about 50 minutes.
One of the islands has an old Vietnamese Refugee Camp on it with some interesting history, and many of the buildings & temples have been preserved as a tourist attraction.

Also known as Vihara Buddhi Bhakti Temple, it is used by the locals for their daily prayers and religious rituals. The temple is built in the traditional Chinese style and has many courtyard statues and several wall paintings.

Maha Vihara Duta Maitreya Buddhist Temple is one of the biggest Buddhist temples in South East Asia and is a major attraction in Batam. The temple is located in the Batam Center.
